Indiana Killer, Richard Allen Delphi

Indiana Killer Sentenced to 130 Years for the Delphi Murders,

Richard Allen, (52)

Richard Allen, a 52-year-old resident of Delphi, Indiana, was convicted in November 2024 for the 2017 murders of teenagers Abigail "Abby" Williams, 13, and Liberty "Libby" German, 14. The girls were found dead near the Monon High Bridge Trail in Delphi, with evidence indicating they had been led off the trail at gunpoint before being killed.

The investigation remained unsolved for five years until Allen's arrest in October 2022. Key evidence included an unspent .40 caliber bullet found between the victims' bodies, which was linked to a gun owned by Allen. Additionally, video footage from Libby German's phone captured a man, referred to as "Bridge Guy," near the crime scene; enhanced analysis identified Allen as this individual.

During his incarceration, Allen reportedly confessed to the murders multiple times during phone calls with his wife, stating, "I did it. I killed Abby and Libby." Despite these admissions, his defense argued that his mental state had deteriorated due to extended solitary confinement, leading to erratic behavior and self-harm.

In December 2024, Allen was sentenced to 130 years in prison—65 years for each murder. During the sentencing, he displayed contempt by rolling his eyes, even as the victims' families delivered emotional impact statements expressing their enduring grief.

Allen's defense team has indicated plans to appeal the verdict, maintaining his innocence and citing concerns about his mental health and the investigation process. The case, marked by a prolonged investigation and high emotions, has had a lasting impact on the Delphi community and the victims' families.
